I also encountered such a problem. I have a couple of charming chinchillas - Cupcake and Pistachio. The other day, having noticed blood in the cage, I began to examine my wards and found terrible wounds on the hind legs of Pistachios. They were torn almost to the bone, and the chinchilla also nibbled them constantly. It turned out that in rodents this happens on a nervous basis with hormonal failure in the body. The specialist recommended treating the wounds with Traumeel ointment and hydrogen peroxide, as well as fixing Pistachio’s neck in the collar so that she could not injure herself. I had to do it myself. I think many owners may face a similar situation, so I decided to tell you how I made it myself a collar for a pet.
You will need:
-Plastic folder,
-Thick lace
-Scissors,
-Latch for lace,
-Rule,
-Pencil,
-Stapler clerical.
How to make a collar
First, draw a collar drawing on a plastic folder. Cut it out. Sizes that fit completely under the neck of the chinchilla: width - 210 mm, height - 115 mm, width of the lower semicircle - 90 mm. This is what the workpiece looks like.
After this, it is necessary to bend the strips located on the inside. Pass them through the slots. Fasten with a stapler so that the strips and ends of the brackets are on the outside. This is necessary so that pieces of wool are not pulled out from the animal parts.
The ends of the lace must be scorched, one fix the clamp. The clamp is ordinary, which is attached to the clothes. The second end of the lace is knotted. The lace must be threaded into the clips through the eyelets, and then tightened. This turned out to be such a collar.
You just need to put it on the neck of the chinchilla and fasten the lock-strips. The hinges can be glued with a medical plaster.
The collar for the animal really helped me out. At first, Pistachio was incredibly frightened, even offended by me. But a week later, the wounds on the paws completely healed. The latch did not interfere with her eating, moving around. Kex's girlfriend in this outfit, by the way, has become very interesting. Now I give chinchillas sedatives, treat the cause of this disorder.
A collar can be made for other rodents by measuring the parameters of the neck. I hope many animal owners will find my experience useful!
