Today, search magnets have become a very popular topic. Such "fishing" attracts not only boys and scrap metal seekers, but also quite respectable and wealthy people. Why is this happening? Every man has a boy, but not everyone likes traditional fishing. It happens that the fish is “naughty”, the gears are chosen incorrectly, the place chosen is unsuccessful, and besides, you need to look for worms and prepare the bait. Yes, and the fish itself ... After all, you can buy it in the store. And with a magnet, things are completely different. Here you always have the same tackle, but what you can fish for is unknown. This intrigue attracts you. Suddenly, for the next casting, the magnet will take with it not a rusty nail, but a rare dagger, a metal box with old chervonets, or a pistol from the Great Patriotic War? Agree, this really tickles the nerves.

Search magnets in wide access and at affordable prices have appeared relatively recently. Modern technologies have cheapened the process of their production, therefore, today in order to get a magnet you do not need to disassemble the old hard, just go to the store or the Internet.

How to choose a magnet

In this case, a beginner may have a reasonable question, how to choose a suitable magnet? After all, they differ both in size and in force of attraction and cost. In fact, choosing the right product is not so difficult.

To begin with, we note that there are two types of magnets - one-sided and two-sided. They are distinguished by the fact that the first magnet only has one working side, the second, respectively, two. One-sided magnets provide only uniform mounting - the so-called The eye bolt is screwed only into the center of the plane opposite the work surface. It also happens that a bolt with a hook for attaching the rope is soldered to the body in which the magnet is located. In a double-sided magnet, the bolt can also be screwed into the side - the "edge".
Looking ahead, we note that a two-sided magnet has undeniable advantages, which is why it costs more. Due to the nature of the one-sided magnet, it can only be used by dropping vertically down. That is, they can work from a bridge, or a boat (if you are searching in a river or lake). It is suitable for exploring old wells.
However, if you look at the channels of search engines on Youtube, you will notice that they usually throw a magnet while standing on the shore. For these cases, a two-sided magnet is needed. The "washer" should fall to the bottom of the working side, after which the magnet is driven along the bottom with a cable. A one-sided magnet with this fishing method will be of little use.

What weight to choose?

We have already said that magnets come in two types according to the form of execution. But when choosing a "search engine" you need to consider other properties and features. You must clearly understand why you need a magnet and where you will work with it. It is believed that search magnets should have an attractive force of at least 100-200 kg. At first glance it may seem that this is a lot, but in fact it is not. For example, a magnet, which indicates that the force of gravity corresponds to 100 kg, can only maintain the indicated weight under ideal conditions. He will be able to lift vertically up a flat metal plate with a smooth and clean surface. And it is worth changing the angle of application of force a little, and the magnet begins to move down from the surface. This means that he will be able to drag along the bottom hardly half of the specified mass. Now imagine what happens at the bottom of the river! The metal there is overgrown with silt, sinks into sand, gets mixed up in algae. So it turns out that it’s hardly possible to take out a thing weighing 10 kg on a “sotochka”! Do not forget about the course. When separated from the bottom, the object immediately begins to vibrate and break off if the current is strong enough. Therefore, to search for various "artifacts" you can recommend magnets in the range of 200-400 kg. They will not attract unnecessary pieces of iron, but interesting gizmos will magnetize reliably.
A completely different story with earnings from scrap metal. Indeed, in our rivers and lakes there is so much metal debris that it is quite possible to earn a living from it. In this case, the "search engines" should be more powerful - within 600-800 kg. Such magnets themselves weigh more than a kilogram, but they easily pull out whole mountains of metal. There are times when such magnets had to be torn off using machines. But with their help, you can catch not only bicycles, but even motorcycles and the remains of cars.

Ammunition Choice

If you decide to do a search, then in addition to the magnet, you will definitely need to purchase the appropriate cable. Do not skimp. Magnets are not that expensive, but losing even an inexpensive magnet due to a rope breaking is very unpleasant. Most often, search engines acquire special nylon cables used by climbers. They are protected from abrasion and have a particularly durable middle core, which ensures that the cable does not break at the most inopportune moment. Choose the cable length based on your needs. Usually the length of the rope does not exceed 20 meters. Even a strong man will not physically succeed in throwing a half-kilo blank. Be sure to get quality gloves. Ropes and finds are very easy to cut and rub your palms. It is advisable to get a bag for finds. Findings from the bottom are often corroded by rust, covered with algae and silt, which makes them unsightly and exudes an unpleasant odor. So putting them in a regular bag or backpack is uncomfortable.
Pay attention to how the magnet is attached. Read the appropriate instructions on the Internet and select the appropriate node.

Search Magnet Care

A quality magnet does not require special care. It is made of an alloy of neodymium, boron, iron and has a stainless coating. It fits in a quality stainless steel case. Therefore, all care for the magnet is wiping it with a dry cloth and cleaning it from small metal particles that stick to it and clog into the holes.
The neodymium magnet itself is reliable and durable. For 10 years, on average, it loses no more than 1% of power. It must not be hit and, most importantly, it must not be exposed to high temperatures. If you heat it to 80 degrees, it will completely demagnetize and turn into a useless blank.
Many people like to shoot their searches on camera. Do not forget that the effect of a magnet can be detrimental to any electronics. Not only a camera, but also a mobile phone with a laptop can easily fail. So keep all your gadgets at a safe distance.
Check every time the reliability of the node and the integrity of the cable.

What can be caught?

Let's face it, non-ferrous and precious metals do not magnetize! And these are the unchanging laws of physics. You can’t argue with them. Therefore, only iron and other alloys can be caught on a magnet. Typically, search engines boast of found keys, locks, nails, coins and other small things. Sometimes you can get various antiques: horseshoes, forged products, various tools.
Quite often you can find weapons and ammunition. This is a legacy not only of the 40s, but also of the 90s. It is better to stay away from such finds and return to the bottom without regret. After all, no one has canceled the article for the illicit trafficking in weapons and ammunition. And taking risks, hoping that the expert does not recognize weapons in your find, is not worth it.

In general, God alone knows what can lie at the bottom of a pond! You can find completely unexpected, and sometimes very valuable things!

Where to looking for?

No matter what you look for, scrap metal or ancient artifacts, the most "fish" place will be where there are more people. This is logical, because somehow this thing should fall to the bottom! So it turns out that the most interesting "fishing" will be near the bridges. Passers-by and passers-by here are losing or deliberately putting various things under water. During the construction of bridges and structures, builders also dump unnecessary or inappropriate metal into the water. Therefore, bridges are interesting in terms of searching for scrap.
It is better to choose an old, rather than a modern bridge. After all, then you can find things of the corresponding era, and not just modern consumer goods.

Which magnet to choose?

Domestic manufacturers of neodymium magnets managed to gain a good reputation. At the same time, high-quality magnets are produced in Germany and Poland. But one of the largest manufacturers is China. It is in this country that the largest reserves of rare earth metals, to which neodymium belongs, are concentrated. Moreover, the demand for products is so high that China imposed duties on the export of magnets to cover the needs of its own engineering industry. Despite this, you can purchase high-quality Chinese-made magnets at an attractive price on the Internet. The network is debating about the power of magnets from different manufacturers. But the opinions expressed are mainly of a subjective nature, since all manufacturers monitor the quality of their products. Therefore, it is best to choose a manufacturer yourself.
In the end, no matter what magnet you choose, it must fulfill its functions, namely: to guarantee you fascinating leisure time or even provide income.
We wish you all a successful search!
