In this review, the author shows how to make a handle for a knife from balsa wood. Such a pen looks very original.
First of all, on a band saw, it is necessary to cut two rectangular blanks from cork. For greater hardness, they can be held for some time in a stabilizing resin in a vacuum chamber.
After that, two holes must be drilled in the prepared blanks. Two holes of the same diameter must also be drilled in the tail of the knife. These operations are best performed on a drilling machine.
The main stages of work
At the next stage, the master draws on the blanks the contours of the knife handle, and then cuts two halves of the handle on a band saw.
Next, glue the halves of the handle to the shank of the knife. For this, the author uses epoxy glue. Two more brass bushings are also required.
After that, the knife handle will need to be sanded on a grinding machine, giving it a finished shape.
Now it remains only to cover the handle with linseed oil to make it more attractive.
