Usually, old acid batteries that have already worked out their life and are no longer subject to recovery, recycle or just throw them in the trash. However, one can make something useful out of this “raw material” - for example, a box for storing a tool or stationery.
The battery box can also be used to store various parts: bolts, nuts, screws, screws and other small things. In general, this is a useful idea for all proponents of recycling "waste" materials. When disassembling an acid battery, observe basic precautions - work with gloves and use other personal protective equipment.
How to disassemble the battery and make a box
First of all, you need to saw off the top of the plastic battery case. But you need to do this in two stages. First, cut a shallow groove with a special cutter on all sides. And then we saw off the upper part with a hacksaw for metal, since there is lead inside.
Then carefully remove the lead plates and thoroughly rinse the battery with a solution of baking soda or caustic soda to neutralize acid residues. We clean the surface at the cut point with a file or sandpaper.
The result was a box useful in the household, in which there are six compartments - you can store drills, taps, cutters, pencils, pens, and other rubbish. For more information on how to make a box from the battery for storing the instrument, see the video on the website.
