When installing poles and supporting balusters for stairs, the method of hidden installation is often used, which allows you to mask the fasteners, as well as make the outer surface of wooden products smooth and maximally monophonic. This is done for reasons of aesthetics.
Usually, in the process of installing wooden poles and balusters, the classic method is used to perform flush mounting of fasteners - first, a hole of the desired diameter is drilled, and then a wooden plug is inserted. The surface of the column is painted, the cork is knocked out, and after the "landing" of the bolt with washer is installed in place.
This method is good in its own way, but far from ideal. If you want the surface of the products to be as plain as possible, it is better to still use another method of hidden fasteners - more practical and reliable than the first.
How to hide fasteners in a wooden pole
In a fully finished and sized product, we drill holes for a bolted connection of the desired diameter. We first put steel washers in them, and then insert the bolts. To make this fastener hidden, it is necessary to close the hole with a wooden cork and paint.
However, before this, it is necessary to securely fix the bolt in the "socket" so that during installation work it does not turn. To do this, mix the sawdust with glue and the resulting slurry fill the holes with the bolt. As an alternative, epoxy may be used.
Then we close the hole with a wooden cork, cut off the protruding part and grind it. After painting on the surface of the post you will not find any signs of the presence of fasteners.
