Not everyone can afford to buy a lathe, and it is not always possible to place it in a home workshop, since there is not enough free space. In this case, you can use an alternative option - to make a mini-lathe on wood with your own hands, using the usual electric drill and materials that are at hand.

Manufacturing process

First of all, for a homemade lathe you will need two M12 pins (long and short), the lower ends of which need to be slightly sharpened under the cone.

One pin is fixed with two nuts in an aluminum drum of suitable diameter, which is inserted into the electric drill chuck. The second stud is installed in another cartridge, which can be removed from a non-working drill or screwdriver.
Next, you will need to make a bed of a mini-lathe from suitable sized wooden blocks. An electric drill with a drum is mounted on one end of the platform, and a second chuck with a pin is installed on the other (to securely fasten the chuck, a U-shaped steel part must be used) with longitudinal slots.

To mount the electric drill on the bed, which serves as the drive of the lathe, you can use direct suspensions for the installation of drywall. A chuck with a pin located on the opposite side is fixed at the desired height using a large conical nut.

Practical application

In the wooden blank that you will be processing, you need to make small indentations along the edges, and then clamp it between the two studs. Then you need to additionally fix the workpiece with three self-tapping screws through the holes in the drum, and make a stand for the tool. The home lathe is ready to go. This budget model can be made by every novice master.
