This device can be called "narrow-profile", but it will still come in handy at home - when performing various tasks, as well as in the workshop (for example, in the process of making home-made products).

Manufacturing process

For this homemade tool you will need an old triangular file, which has developed its "resource". Using the grinding wheel, the edges are grinded in such a way as to produce something like a “spear”, with which fishermen usually go winter fishing.
Then the workpiece must be processed on a belt grinder. Since the working layer of the file is quenched by high-frequency currents, the metal inside remains raw. To fix this, it is necessary to perform additional hardening - the file must first be heated to a dark cherry color, and then dipped in oil.

Please note that if the file steel is heated to red, and then hardened, then it will turn out to be too fragile. True, it will be better to sharpen it. But it will be necessary to additionally release hardened steel in liquid tin - and more time will have to be spent on the manufacture of the tool as a whole.

The final stage of work

Next, it will be necessary to grind the edges of the file on the machine at the base, and also make a leg for fixing in the handle. On this, the working part of the tool is completely ready. As for the handle itself, then you can use a wooden one (for example, from a broken chisel). For fixation, you can use epoxy resin.

As an alternative, the handle of a screwdriver is also suitable - since it is made of plastic, the file shank needs to be heated and simply inserted into the handle. However, in both cases, it is necessary to make notches on the metal.

Using this device, you can easily make holes of various diameters in soft materials, without using a drill and a set of drills. Convenient and practical.
