In this review, the author shows the process of making a knife from an old file. It can be used to work with both skin and linoleum or other materials.

First of all, the author draws a sketch of a knife on a piece of paper, which can be oriented in the process of processing the workpiece.

Next, we cut out the template, apply it to the file, circle it with a marker or paint over it, and then cut it out with a grinder.

Then the author processes the workpiece on a grinding machine. For convenience, it uses a magnetic corner for welding.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, the author proceeds to the formation of descents and sharpening the knife blade.

After that, three holes need to be drilled in the knife handle. They are needed for fixing wooden linings. Then the knife needs to be heated and quenched in oil.

After a vacation in the oven, the author proceeds to sharpen the blade (finish). This is followed by polishing the metal surface.

At the last stage, it remains only to make pads that will be attached to the handle. They can be made from a piece of wood or plywood.

Glue the pads, then process the handle of the knife and cover with varnish or mineral oil.
