For processing wooden workpieces on a lathe, special wood cutters are used. And many of them can be made with your own hands.

In this review, the author shows how to make a semicircular cutter (raiser), which is used for roughing a workpiece. The author took the stem from the shock absorber as a basis.

The most important thing in the manufacture of a turning tool from the shock absorber rod is not to overheat the metal. Therefore, in the process of cutting with a grinder, it is necessary to use water or coolant to cool the workpiece. The author uses ice, but it is better to use a soap solution - the effect will be better.

The main stages of work

First you need to trim the edge of the rod, and then using a angle grinder to make a longitudinal section. Ultimately, you should get a groove with a shank.

At the next stage, the resulting workpiece will need to be processed on a grinding machine. The author rounds off the edge of the future turning tool to end up with a radius shape. During this operation, the workpiece also needs to be cooled.

Then the sharpening of the cutting edge is performed - also on the grinding machine. In this case, the author did not use any special sharpening devices. A long self-tapping screw must be welded to the shank.

Then it remains only to make a wooden handle. And for this, the master uses an oak block. Crimp ring made of bronze nut for water supply.
