Without the use of a water trap (or as it is also called a water trap) it is very difficult to organize a high-quality fermentation process of an alcoholic beverage. Using this device, carbon dioxide can be removed from the tank without passing oxygen.

If you just remove the lid to release the accumulated carbon dioxide, then the oxygen will “leak” inside, resulting in vinegar instead of the long-awaited wine. Therefore, a water lock is a very useful thing.

In this issue we will consider how to make a quick lock for wine in a hurry. Of course, for many it’s easier to go to the store and buy. However, it must be remembered that not all purchased valves are suitable for containers. You can spend money, but still not get the desired result.

The main stages of work

Consider three different types of water trap that you can do with your own hands. For this, three plastic covers will be required and punch holes in them with a diameter of 6 mm. You can make them with a punch or drill.

The first version of the water seal is the simplest. Insert a silicone hose or tube with a diameter of 8 mm into the hole. A plastic lid is put on a container of wine, the other end of the tube must be lowered into a jar of water.

The second option is a water lock: we pass the silicone tube into the hole in the lid, and then we make a loop and fix it with a thread or a thin copper wire. Pour some water into the tube.

The third option is more sophisticated, but also simple. In the same way as in the previous cases, we insert the tube into the through hole in the cover. Then glue the cork from the plastic bottle to the lid. We screw the neck of the bottle into the cork, pour water inside and insert the hose.
