It is very simple to make a blacksmith anvil for your home workshop with your own hands - and for this you will need a regular piece of a railway rail, which can be inexpensively purchased at a scrap metal collection point.

Despite the small size, on a home-made anvil made of rail, you can not only trim the nails, but also perform some blacksmithing operations, for example, forging a blank for a kitchen or hunting knife, as well as flatten a square bar. In general, such a thing in the household will definitely not be superfluous.

The main stages of work

First of all, we put a brush for metal on the grinder and we clean the surface of the railway rail from rust and dirt. Please note that for the manufacture of mini anvils you need to use a piece of rail with a length of at least 30 cm.

Then we install a cutting wheel for metal on an angle grinder, after which we proceed to the most painstaking part of the work - we “shred” the edges of the railway rail, so that we get the tail of the blacksmith anvil.

At the next stage, we cut out a triangular piece in the central part of the rail. Then it remains only to polish the surface well, and also to round the edges with a “tail”.

If desired, the anvil can be painted, but this is not urgent. You can install it on a wooden deck or metal frame. The step-by-step process of making a homemade mini anvil for the home can be seen in the video on the website.
