Thick paper;

Material selection

A handmade card is not just a part of a gift, it is a proof of a serious approach to choosing a present. Such things are always individual and unique. Therefore, it is worth considering what you will make a postcard from. As a basis, you can use a simple landscape sheet or special double-sided paper, which is painted on each side in its own color. I would like to note that postcards made using the technique of curly cutting look on such paper most effectively. However, if you do not have the opportunity to purchase such materials, and simple sheets from an album for drawing are not dense enough or look too simple, you can use watercolor paper, as done in this workshop.
Watercolor paper is slightly denser than a landscape sheet, has a pleasant porous structure and, in addition, you yourself can paint it in different colors, without fear of deformation. Among other things, cutting parts from such paper is quite simple, unlike cardboard that is too dense for this technique.
Sparkles can be taken any, but preferably small or medium. A combination of several colors will look beautiful. Do not forget that the symbol of 2017 is a fiery rooster, so we select the appropriate color scheme. In addition, for spangles, we need a spatula or something that is convenient to gently pour them on paper.
PVA glue should be thick enough and not spread, and the brush for applying it should be thin enough so that it is possible to apply the intended pattern.
I would also like to say about a knife for cutting. It is best to use a special - mock-up, but even a simple clerical, or even a blade from it, will do. However, using a blade without a knife is quite traumatic and if it so happened that the knife broke, and you urgently need to cut it, be careful!

Working process

To begin, we come up with and draw a suitable picture or just print it on plain office paper.

Then we prepare the basis for the postcard. To do this, take paper of a suitable size, bend it in half, and if necessary, cut with simple or curly scissors.
After that, the resulting pattern is securely fixed on the card.

We hatch the cutting area, carefully check so as not to cut off the excess.

Getting to the cut. Naturally, you need to do all this while sitting at a table with good lighting and put a wooden board or an old magazine under the postcard.

We remove the clamps, carefully separate the sheet with the picture from the postcard, squeeze the received elements.

We come up with a pattern for applying sparkles, apply glue to selected areas with a thin brush.

Using a spatula or improvised tools, we sprinkle sequins of different colors alternately. It is very convenient to do this on a blank sheet of paper, then the extra sparkles can simply be shaken back into the jar.
