To increase the cross-country ability of a car or agricultural machinery on the road, as well as in snow or mud, many people make a deeper tread on the tire.

Usually, for this purpose, it is recommended to use a device called a regrover. You can buy it or make it yourself.

We recommend reading: how to make a simple regruver with your own hands.

In this article, we’ll talk about how to do without a regruver. There are two ways to do this: using a metal bit and a homemade drill bit.

Cut the tread with a metal crown

Everything is simple here - we take a metal crown of the required diameter, insert it into the perforator cartridge and start cutting a new tread.

In principle, the method is working, and with the help of a crown you can quickly cut deep treads on rubber. Take note.

Cut the tread with a homemade nozzle

To cut the tread, you can use the usual homemade nozzle. Making it is very simple.

You can use a piece of pipe of suitable diameter for this. In it, it is necessary to cut out the “window” through which the used rubber will exit.

The outer edge of the workpiece must be sharpened. From time to time, the cutting edge will need to be updated with a file, as its sharp edge becomes dull when cutting rubber.

In general, the use of a homemade nozzle shows a better result than cutting rubber with a crown. Which way to choose is up to you.
