This air piston compressor is very simple to manufacture and can be repeated, if desired, by anyone. The compressor can be used to inflate balls, for some chemical experiments where it is required to create air bubbles in a liquid, like a compressor for aquarium fish, etc.

What will be required to make a compressor?

  • A motor with a 12 V gearbox is the most scarce part, you can buy it here - aliexpress
  • Several bicycle knitting needles.
  • Two valve nipples from the bicycle.
  • 12V power supply, you can buy it here if you suddenly do not have it - aliexpress

A 12-volt DC gear motor with a rotational speed of 300 rpm.

Bicycle spoke.

Manufacture

So, if you have assembled all the components, but we can begin to manufacture our compressor.
Bend the spoke at the end at a right angle.

We use a pair of nippers to bite a knitting needle on the other hand, so that we get such an L-shaped one.

The threaded part of the knitting needle is inserted into the hole in the shaft of the gear motor. The hole was there originally. We fix the second locking nut from another spoke by tightening with pliers.

Then we take two knitting needles and wrap one on the other. We take out the inner knitting needle, bite off part of the wound knitting needle. Here is what should happen.

Bite off at a distance of about 10 cm and make a bend.

Next, we put this curl on the part that was made earlier on the gear motor. Limiters made of locking nuts from knitting needles. We fix the nuts with super glue. We have a moving unit. This is the piston lever that will push the compressor piston.

Take a piece of wooden board and attach a motor with a gearbox and our crank system using a bracket, screws, and a wooden block for elevation.

We will take out the syringe, separate the needle - it will not be needed.

We take out the piston of the syringe and cut off the lower faces under the cone to provide greater ease of movement of the piston, removing excess pressure.

With a hot soldering iron, from the side closer to the beginning of the syringe, make a hole for the valve-nipple.

We insert the nipple, we fix it with super-glue. This will be the intake valve.

Fill the hole for the needle with hot glue - we don’t need it.

We make another hole with a soldering iron and insert the exhaust valve, we fix it with super glue as well.

For greater reliability, and so that there are no leaks, fill the valve joints with epoxy.

Take a paste from a gel ballpoint pen. Cut a small piece of about 1 cm. Glue this piece to the end of the piston with super glue.

Insert the end from the spoke of our mechanism into it. And install the modified syringe on a wooden stand. Everything is fixed with hot glue.

Dress up the silicone tube. We glue the junction of the super terminals, since the tube I have is a little larger in diameter and you can’t put it tight on the valve.

We take the adapter for 12 volts.

We connect it to the motor. And solder the switch into the circuit.

The piston type air compressor is ready. There is enough power for my needs with interest.
