You can make a good knife with your own hands from available materials. Finished blanks for knives often roll around under your feet. But not everyone notices them. For example, you can use an old file as a basis.

For the manufacture of a homemade knife, it is advisable to use a file with a width of at least three centimeters. Soviet-made files are especially good for making knives. For machining, a grinder or grinder will be required.

You will also need to determine in advance the material of the knife handle. The best option is wooden lining. But you can make a pen from other materials, including leaving it whole (cut from the workpiece itself). It all depends on personal preferences and opportunities.

The main stages of work

First of all, draw a knife template. If nothing worthwhile comes to mind, use the design of the blade, which is at hand, as the basis. The finished template can be downloaded on the Internet. At the next stage, transfer the cut template to the workpiece.

To transfer the template to a file, use a metal scriber. Alternatively, you can paint the paper template with spray paint so that a “print” remains on the surface of the workpiece.

We arm ourselves with a small grinder with a cutting disc and cut the knife out of the file. Then we set the grinding (or grinding flap) wheel, and proceed to the machining of the workpiece. Then we do the descent of the blade and its sharpening.

At the last stage of work, we make wood linings for the knife handle. In this case, you can do without rivets. Simply glue the pads to the surface of the handle. The process of making a simple knife from an old file without forging, see the video on the site.
