Tired of listening to tips and want to figure out on your own how to charge the battery of your car?

In the winter season, your car has too many energy consumers, and the average speed and operating time do not allow you to fully charge the battery to a regular generator, so it is recommended that you recharge the battery at home from time to time.

Using the calculator is simple:

  • The number of ampere hours (Ah or Ah) of the rechargeable battery is entered in the first line, see the information sticker on the case
  • The second current value on your charger
  • Click to calculate and get the result

Charging is carried out with a current of 0.1 of the battery capacity, that is, the 55Ah battery is charged with a current of 5.5A. For long battery life, low-current charging is recommended, for example, 0.05 of capacity, for a 55Ah battery it will be 2.75A.

Why you should periodically charge the car battery yourself

  1. charging goes faster in a warm room;
  2. It will extend the life of your battery;
  3. facilitate cold start of the engine.

What procedures are needed before charging

  1. warm the battery (to speed up the process, the case can be placed in a hot bath, but in no case should water completely hide the case);
  2. to be out of the reach of children;
  3. open the plugs for gas outlet when charging;
  4. make sure that the electrolyte level is higher than the plates inside the case (using a flashlight we look through the holes of the plugs, if the plate protrudes above the level, add distilled water to the jar, in no case tap water).

Why not be afraid

If you hear a slight hiss when the charging is connected, and the liquid inside the battery looks like sparkling water and bubbles come out of it, continue charging for the required time, this is a natural process confirming that the battery is "alive".

What you should pay special attention to

The gas emitted during charging is flammable! It is forbidden to use open sources of fire, including a lighter or matches to see what is happening inside.
